Ok. So I know I'm at a Community College. But I'm in classes with people that have to have graduated from High School or earned their GED. So why is it that these people can't read? It's not even a matter of big words being confusing. I guess. But, for example, Ammonite should not be able to be pronounced anything like Amalichite. There's no "L" in the first one! And even after the professor pronounced the word (over and over and over and over) the same words get tripped over again and again by so many of the students in my Old Testament class. They're not easy words, I get, but there's no reason why the same words should trip up these people not 30 seconds after they encountered the word and were told how to say it.
ARGH!!! What's wrong with our education system that we can't even instill reasonable literacy amongst our HS grads and GED students. Is it so hard to remember the lessons of early elementary school? Say it out in parts! Am. Mon. Ite. I know I can't possibly be _so_ much smarter than the other people. I'm smart. I'm really smart, I know this. But I'm not on another evolutionary level or anything. I want to have greater faith in my fellow students, humanity in general, and the process of American education than this! _________________ It's not pretentious if you're just that good.
